A Neural Approach to Mental Health: LSTM RNNs for Depression Detection
Depression is a common mental health condition affecting both developed and developing nations, but it is often challenging to diagnose accurately and promptly. Traditional diagnostic methods can be time-consuming and may lead to delays in providing necessary treatment. This study addresses the need for a reliable and efficient machine learning approach to detect depression. It explores the use of deep learning techniques, specifically long-short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural networks (RNN), for identifying signs of depression. After extensive testing, the algorithm demonstrated a remarkable 96% accuracy in detecting depressive symptoms from text data. This research presents an effective approach for depression detection using LSTM RNNs, which excel at identifying temporal patterns in sequential data. The proposed model offers timely assistance and intervention for individuals at risk while also contributing to mental health research, thanks to its high accuracy and potential for improving mental health outcomes.
