Rapid Response Drones: UAV-Based Healthcare Delivery for Critical Situations

Rapid response drones have the potential to be a game-changer for delivering healthcare during crucial moments due to both the time-sensitive nature of primary health services and the high delays and costs involved in land and air ambulances. In remote or disaster-affected regions, timely medical intervention will be severely limited by the dearth of immediate response time, which can take up to 2 hours with existing systems. The paper introduces a novel unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted healthcare delivery system, which aims to deliver healthcare products swiftly and reliably—combining a modular architecture with free video surveillance, autonomous flight controls, real-time delivery slot optimization in urban and rural environments and real-time video surveillance to deliver medical supplies 5-15 minutes. The improvements in response times, carbon emissions, noise levels, and delivery accuracy were found to be significant -95% for the former and $\mathbf{8 0 \%}$ and $\mathbf{8 5 \%}$, respectively for existing systems, but had been only tested in simulation. The results reflect the UAV systems ability to improve operational efficiency and expedite sustainability, offering an option for emergency medical logistics.
