GREEN GUARDIAN: IOT Driven Water Management for Sustainable Agriculture
Water scarcity is the most persistent problem on earth, especially in agriculture, due to inefficiency in its usage which reflects on the health and productivity of crops. This paper aims to propose a Smart Irrigation System that could save water better and consume resources much better. The system includes capacitive moisture soil sensors; temperature and humidity sensors with IoT-based protocol communication that relays conditions live. The methodology uses machine learning algorithms to generate predictions over time for the water requirement of different species of plants according to their seasonal behaviours. This led the tests to decline water intakes between 30 and 40, thus furthering the view of a sustainable agriculture way of life. This system has an intercommunication interface with the smartphone, meaning it can be set from afar and its scheduling changed with minimal on-site manual monitoring. This technology can easily scale up to work on a range of crops and climatic conditions, hence highly applicable in agriculture. It also does not interfere with already laid sprinkler and drip irrigation systems as such; hence it is easy to adapt the already existing infrastructure. Further studies will be on AI-based models of weather forecasting that will even improve their level of accuracy. Intelligent irrigation systems help to save water through proper health and increased productivity in agriculture because this corrects many and severe problems in the agricultural sector.
