A Novel 2-Refinement Algorithm in All-Hexahedral Mesh Based on Face Features

The accuracy and efficiency of finite element analysis are closely related to the quality of mesh cell delineation and the degree of sparsity. For the adaptive refinement of 3-dimensional hexahedral meshes, in this paper, we propose a novel 2-refinement algorithm in all-hexahedral mesh based on face features, which considers the direction of refined cells to the original 2-refinement template for optimizing the connection between different refinement cells. Then, determining the refinement type and location of the transition cells through the face connection relationship and direction between the cells, to reduce the expansion range of the refinement region, and to improve the cell quality of the transition refinement region. Experimentally, it is demonstrated that the method proposed can be adapted to the step-shaped refinement region, and use fewer transition cells to achieve a smooth transition, to generate high-quality hexahedral mesh.
