Harnessing AI in Prisons: Balancing Security, Efficiency, and Ethical Challenges
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in prison systems offers transformative potential for enhancing security, streamlining operations, and improving inmate rehabilitation. AI-driven surveillance systems provide real-time monitoring and anomaly detection, while predictive models help preempt incidents. Personalized rehabilitation programs powered by AI improve inmates' reintegration prospects. However, deploying AI in prisons raises significant ethical, privacy, and fairness concerns. This paper examines AI's multifaceted role in prison systems, addressing its benefits and challenges. By proposing a comprehensive technical framework, the study aims to guide policymakers, technologists, and administrators in implementing ethical and effective AI solutions in prison management.
