Advanced Techniques for Detecting Intrusions Leveraging Ensemble Machine Learning and Feature Reduction Techniques
As its name implies, intrusion detection is the primary function of intrusion detection systems. Among the many tools used by conventional computer-based systems to guarantee cyber security, this kind of detecting system stands out. When an IDS model uses the input dataset to identify the most relevant characteristics, it may improve detection rates and run quicker. Feature selection is a crucial part of IDs since it allows you to choose the best subsection of structures to use in training your model, which in turn speeds up the process, removes complexity, and maintains or improves system performance. In this research, we provide a strategy that uses attack-specific partitioning of the input dataset. Every subset was thereafter subjected to an information gain filter feature selection procedure. When all of the feature sets from each assault are combined, the best features set is produced. Using the NSL-KDD dataset, researchers were able to validate that the suggested feature selection strategy improved system accuracy while reducing complexity with fewer features. In addition, we compare the effectiveness of several categorization approaches in feature selection. Next, we apply Random Forest and PART to the voting learning algorithm in order to improve its overall performance. Using the end result probability rule yields the greatest outcomes in terms of accuracy.
