Exploring the Dark Side of AI: The Challenges of Explain Ability, Algorithmic Bias, and Ensuring Fairness

The rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping various sectors, including military operations, to such an extent that many nations now consider AI development, funding, and deployment a crucial national priority. Artificial Intelligence has been the most popular phrase of the decade, with many real-world problems and their solutions being attributed to it. Prefixing or suffixing the acronym "AI" to any solution typically, makes the solution to seem more legitimate and palatable due AI making deep inroads into almost all fields and gaining wide acceptability. While it is widely acknowledged that human decision-making can be flawed due to unconscious and systemic biases, a critical question arises: Will AI systems developed by humans exhibit less bias, or will they aggravate the existing issues and biases? This research paper explores the less visible challenges of AI, specifically focusing on issues of explain ability, bias, and fairness within AI-driven systems.
