Performance Evaluation of Software-Defined Networking Platforms during Denial-of-Service Attacks
Software-Defined Networking has emerged as a transformative technology in modern networking due to its centralized and programmable architecture. This study aims to evaluate the performance of two leading open source SDN platforms, the Open Networking Operating System (ONOS) and Open Daylight. The evaluation focuses on key performance metrics including availability, response time, and packet loss in two custom network scenarios during denial-of-service attack scenarios and examines how well these platforms handle attacks that specifically target OpenFlow protocols, which is used for control plane traffic. The results of this research provide valuable insight into the resilience of SDN solutions during cyberattacks and pave the way for the development of future mitigation strategies using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
