Raspberry Pi based Smart Reader for Visually Impaired People
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 285 million people globally are visually impaired, making daily life challenging. To address this, we propose a smart system for the blind that reads printed text aloud, enhancing their independence. This system uses a camera embedded in spectacles to capture text, which is then processed by Tesseract Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. The recognized text is converted into speech using the e-Speak text-to-speech synthesizer, and the audio output is delivered through a headphone. The Raspberry Pi is the core of this setup, facilitating the connection between the camera and image processing components. This innovative device helps visually impaired individuals read printed material, significantly improving their daily lives by providing an accessible and efficient solution. Through this system, they can engage with printed information more independently, promoting greater inclusion and accessibility in their everyday activities.
