Milk Pit: IoT-Integrated Milk Analyzer with Cloud-Connected Mobile Application
India, as the largest producer of milk globally, faces persistent challenges in enhancing both milk quality and production efficiency. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces the “Milk Productivity Improvement Technology Platform” (Milk pit), a bilingual digital solution specifically designed for dairy farmers in Tamil Nadu. Milk pit is equipped with a mobile application that integrates advanced technologies, including IoT and milk testing devices, to monitor and improve milk production and quality. The platform allows dairy farmers to track milk quality consistently over time through a Milk Tester. This device ensures precise quality checks, and the data is seamlessly integrated into the digital platform. Utilizing IoT, Milk PIT establishes a direct connection between dairy farmers and consumers, promoting transparency and trust in the dairy supply chain. The platform sends timely alerts in both English and Tamil, empowering farmers with actionable insights to enhance livestock health and productivity. A standout feature of Milk pit is its incorporation of Tamil, a regional language. This innovation significantly improves accessibility for Tamil Nadu's dairy farmers, many of whom may not be proficient in English. Prior systems lacked this critical language support, limiting their effectiveness and adoption in the region. To validate its efficacy, the Milk pit prototype underwent real-time testing with 57 cattle. The results demonstrated satisfactory performance, reinforcing the platform's potential to revolutionize milk production practices in India. By leveraging technology and linguistic inclusivity, Milk PIT paves the way for a smarter, more sustainable dairy industry.
