Research of the remains of the Zaporizhzhya Nekhvoroshchansky Dormition Monastery by the archaeological expedition of the Dnipropetrovsk National Historical Museum named after D. I. Yavornytskyi in 2023
The purpose of the article is to present the results of archaeological research conducted by the expedition of the Dnipro National Historical Museum named after D. I. Yavornytskyi on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nekhvoroshchanskyi Monastery of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 2023. Scientific novelty: the article presents findings from the site of an outstanding monument, which was first studied through archaeological excavations, which allowed to supplement and critically comprehend written sources, especially cartographic materials. Collections of objects highlighting the peculiarities of the historical development of Pryorillia from the Eneolithic to the modern period are being introduced into scientific circulation. Research methods: historical and typological, historical and chronological, stratigraphic, archaeological exploration, archaeological excavations. Practical significance: the results of the study can be used by specialists in teaching such disciplines as “Fundamentals of Archaeology,” “Local History,” “Monument Studies,” etc. In a broader sense, the information can be useful to anyone interested in the history and archaeology of Ukraine. Main results: The results of the study of the monastery territory include the discovery of a new object of historical and cultural heritage, namely a Late Bronze Age settlement (previously – Bohuslavsko-Bilozerska cultural and historical community; XII–X centuries BC). The cultural layer of the Early Modern period turned out to be overdated, although it testified to the long re sidence of the population within the ramparts of the monument. In particular, this is evidenced by the findings of building bricks and stove tiles. Due to numerous plundering excavations, no residential or economic structures of the monastic brotherhood were found. The Collection Inventory reflected in the archaeological report includes one hundred and thirty-eight items of historical and cultural value that will soon increase the museum’s collection. Type of article: empirical.
