Social presence and positive emotions: Mediating role of perceived enjoyment and moderating role of the usage frequency of electronic devices
The study examines the relationships among social presence, perceived enjoyment, and satisfaction in a virtual reality(VR) setting. The proposed model includes the mediating role of perceived enjoyment between social presence and satisfaction. This means that a hierarchical structure between perceived enjoyment and satisfaction is needed to understand. The present study also investigates the moderating role of the usage frequency of electronic devices in the structural equation model. A total of 256 adults participated in an experiment involving a VR skiing experience to test the hypotheses of this study. As hypothesized, the main results find a positive relationship between social presence and perceived enjoyment, social presence and satisfaction, and perceived enjoyment. Additionally, the result also show that perceived enjoyment mediates the relationship between social presence and satisfaction. The usage frequency of electronic devices moderates the relationship between social presence and perceived enjoyment and perceived enjoyment and satisfaction.
