Interdisciplinary Management of Endodontic-Periodontal Lesion due to CervicalEnamel Projections and Intermediate Bifurcation Ridge: A Case Report
Destruction of periodontium is primarily induced by the microbial attack and the host response subsequent to it. Dental plaque and calculus accumulation in tooth surfaces are the principal etiologic agent for microbial challenge in the oral cavity. Anatomical factors such as cervical enamel projections (CEPs), bifurcation ridges, enamel pearls, etc., are known to be secondary factors for periodontal destruction because they pave way for plaque and calculus retention. The present case report aims to highlight an interesting case of localized periodontitis caused due to a combination of CEP and bifurcational ridge in the furcation region of maxillary first molar. The paper also describes the efficacious management of the resultant endodontic-periodontal lesion through multidisciplinary approach. Keywords: Bone grafts, Cervical enamel projections, Periodontics, Root canal therapy
