Hybrid Beam forming for Massive MIMO in 5G Wireless Networks
Abstract— In the context of fifth-generation (5G) and beyond fifth-generation (B5G) wireless networks, which aim to deliver higher data rates and reduced latency, the rapid increase in data traffic has prompted extensive research into Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems. These systems employ multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver ends to enhance communication performance. To address the need for efficient and reliable communication, this research introduces an antenna-based hybrid beamforming approach within a massive MIMO framework to improve the system's spectral efficiency. The proposed method employs channel limitation with a minimal number of RF chains and utilizes Chebyshev tapering to suppress side lobe signals, thereby enhancing the main lobe signal strength. The study demonstrates that the proposed hybrid beamforming technique achieves high spectral efficiency with reduced complexity compared to traditional fully digital beamforming. Simulation results reveal that the antenna-based hybrid beamforming approach can decrease computational complexity by up to 98% while maintaining comparable spectral efficiency, making it a viable solution for 5G networks.
