INSULIN-INDUCED LIPOHYPERTROPHY: CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Lipohypertrophy is a common side effect of subcutaneous insulin therapy. Absorption of insulin from areas of lipohypertrophy occurs uncontrollably, that is why patients experience difficulty while achieving compensation of carbohydrate metabolism. Ultrasonography of subcutaneous fat will allow diagnosing lipohypertrophy in patients with diabetes mellitus in everyday clinical practice and achieving better patient adherence to diabetes management by changing the site and dose of administered insulin agent.
