Case Report—Adrenal Insufficiency Secondary to Inhaled Corticosteroids
To the Editor:Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are widely used to manage asthma due to their potent anti-inflammatory effects. 1 However, their potential for systemic absorption can cause hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, resulting in adrenal insufficiency. This adverse effect is underrecognized and potentially life-threatening.The following case illustrates adrenal suppression associated with prolonged exposure to high-dose ICS and subsequent HPA axis recovery following ICS dose reduction.
