A Switch Fault Tolerant Method for Cascaded Cross-Switch Converter Based Active Rectifier
In response to the growing harmonic issues in the power grid, active rectifiers have gained lots of attention. Single-phase cascaded cross-switch active rectifier (CCAR) is one of the outstanding candidates in this application. However, a large number of power electronic switches makes this topology vulnerable to failure in semiconductor switches. This paper focuses on the continuous operation of CCAR after failure in its semiconductor switches. A finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy is introduced for fault tolerance in the CCAR system. When a power switch fails, the control strategy is modified by reconfiguration of the switching states in the multi-objective cost function and modifying weight factors. Simulation results obtained in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment substantiate the efficacy of the proposed fault-tolerant strategy in preserving CCAR functionality so that the system continues operation even in the presence of switch fault.
