A Quadratic Partial Power Non-Isolated DC-DC Converter for Photovoltaic Applications

In this paper, a Quadratic Partial Power Non-Isolated DC-DC converter and its control system have been introduced, specifically designed for Photovoltaic (PV) applications. This converter combines partial power conversion with a quadratic boost structure, achieving high voltage gain and efficiency while reducing component size and cost. The partial power method limits the processed power, resulting in lower voltage and current stress on semiconductors under typical conditions, and the continuous input current minimizes ripple, essential for stable PV operation. Small-signal analysis, including Bode plots and statespace matrices, has guided the controller design for both ideal and non-ideal conditions, with the latter addressing real-world component losses. MATLAB Simulink simulations confirm the converter’s effectiveness, demonstrating its suitability for PV applications with high efficiency, low stress, and reliable voltage regulation.
