Resource Optimization in Smart Cities: the Role of LoRaWAN Sensor Networks and Advanced Data Aggregation Techniques
The growing need for efficient data transmission in LoRaWAN-enabled smart city applications presents significant challenges in achieving timely response and precise monitoring, particularly in areas such as Smart Environmental Monitoring and Smart Waste Management. This study introduces a novel methodology, the Voronoi Aggregated Repli-code Squeeze Algorithm―to enhance transmission efficiency, facilitating early detection and rapid response. By integrating Voronoi-based spatial aggregation with Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression, the proposed method effectively reduces data overhead and optimizes bandwidth utilization. This approach consolidates data from spatially distributed sensors into a single transmission packet, thereby reducing the frequency of individual transmissions, and compresses the aggregated data to further maximize efficiency. Simulation results indicate notable improvements in transmission rates, reduced latency, and enhanced resource management, making this approach highly suitable for data- dense urban environments.
