Design and Implementation of a Non-Isolated DC-DC Step-Up Converter with Extended Capacitor-Diode Network

A non-isolated DC-DC step-up converter that can reach high gain without extreme duty ratios is proposed. The converter structure benefits from a diode-capacitor network and consists of one inductor, three capacitors, four diodes, and two switching devices that operate synchronously, which makes the controller easier since it needs one controlling signal. The proposed converter can operate with a wide range of input voltages and less than 50 percent duty ratio of switches. The operation principle of the converter is discussed for continuous conduction mode, and the comparison of the proposed converter with some other boost topologies is presented. A 50 W laboratory prototype has been built, and the experimental verification of the proposed converter declared for various duty ratios and a wide range of input voltages, which makes the proposed topology suitable for renewable energy sources and electric vehicle applications.
