Construction and Evaluation of the Gender Inequality in Sports Attitudes Scale—Pilot Study on Kinesiology Students in Croatia
Gender inequality remains a persistent issue in the world of sports. This study introduces the Gender Inequality in Sports Attitudes Scale, a novel measurement tool designed to comprehensively assess gender-based disparities in the sporting domain. The scale’s construction drew upon a comprehensive conceptual framework comprising five content domains: body, women’s sports, sports management, traditional gender roles, and men in aesthetic sports. Principal component analysis revealed three distinct components which capture various facets of gender inequality attitudes in sports, ranging from stereotyping to attitudes on media representation and the undervaluing of women’s achievements. The Gender Inequality in Sports Attitudes Scale stands as a vital instrument that can empower researchers, policymakers, and sports organizations in their collective efforts to evaluate and address gender inequalities.
