The Multiple Occurrences of Acts 17:22–34 in GA L60
Abstract The passage from Acts 17:22–34 occurs three times in GA L60 as supplements. The purpose of this article is to explain why different scribes added this passage to the document. The author proposes that the lection was added because the lectionary originally lacked the lection assigned to the celebration of St. Dionysius. When GA L60 came into the possession of the abbey of Saint-Denis, copyists supplied the omitted material so that the lectionary would reflect the community’s devotion to their saint. The reason Acts 17:22–34 in particular was added to the manuscript lies in the convoluted hagiography of St. Dionysius.
