A Study of the Evaluation Patterns in Online Reading among Fifth-Grade Students : Focusing on Criteria Setting and Justification

This study examines how fifth-grade students evaluate online reading materials by focusing on the criteria they establish and how they justify their assessments. The findings indicate that students categorize the evaluation criteria into reliability, usefulness, and other areas. An analysis of the criteria set by students shows a tendency to make superficial judgments about the entire material, based predominantly on source-related information. While students recognize the need to consider various aspects of the material for a comprehensive evaluation, they struggle to apply their criteria effectively to make accurate judgments. These results suggest that education on online reading evaluation should not only emphasize learning diverse criteria for assessing material but also systematically train students to precisely and concretely use these criteria as the basis for their judgments.
