Ironic Characteristics of Kim Soo-young’s Poetry and the Desire for Overturning

This study examines how the poetic subject accepts modernity and aesthetically responds to the crises and contradictions of modernity by examining the ironic characteristics of Kim Soo-young’s poetry texts. Kim Soo-young actively accepted the aspects of modern change and produced poetry that responds aesthetically and sensitively to conflict situations. In short, Kim Soo-young’s poetry is characterized by the fact that he sharply criticizes and satirizes not only the subject world but also the poetic subject himself based on ironic perception. He does not accept himself and his subjects superficially but constantly inverts them and conducts thorough reflection and exploration. Through this reflective search, he attempts to improve and accept modernity. While recognizing that becoming identical to modernity in the Western sense is inevitable, he shows an attitude of critical acceptance rather than unconditional acceptance.
