Relevance of the Business Degrees offered at the State Technical University of Quevedo - Ecuador
This study analyzes the relevance and pertinence of the courses offered by the Faculty of Business Sciences of the State Technical University of Quevedo (UTEQ). The research is based on the needs of the labor market in Quevedo and its wide area of influence, characterized by constant evolution and a growing demand for trained professionals. An exhaustive analysis of current economic trends was carried out, using statistical data from the Internal Revenue Service (SRI) and the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE) as a reference. These data were compared with information obtained from numerous interviews with experts in the sector. The results showed a significant demand for professionals in areas such as accounting, auditing, human talent management, business administration and marketing, considered essential for the growth of the business environment and the development of the local productive fabric. However, it was observed that the accounting and auditing career has a higher demand than the others, which suggests the need to reevaluate its curriculum to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, it was identified that the academic offer, together with advances in transformation and digital commerce, represents a source of new opportunities for graduates. In conclusion, the need to strengthen the link between academia and the local productive sector, develop soft skills and update educational programs to ensure the relevance of business careers in a dynamic and competitive labor context is emphasized.
