Technology transforming nursing education: Perspectives from health care simulation
Abstract Advancements in medical education have consistently been underpinned by corresponding progress in technology. With the ever-changing landscape of technology and health care, simulation has become an integral component of the health care delivery process. Research indicates that simulation fosters active learning opportunities and enhances student engagement in nursing education. This paper explores the evolution of health care simulation through the lens of technological innovation and its application. There are a variety of options available to clinical simulation educators, as well as commonly used simulation modalities, ranging from simple task trainers to full-body manikins to virtual experiences. Furthermore, this paper highlights emerging trends in simulation, with a focus on artificial intelligence-enhanced simulation, virtual gaming simulation, and the multimodal assessment of behavioral intent during simulation-based education. The paper concludes with the implications of these advancements and offers recommendations for future research and practice in simulation-based nursing education.
