The adaptation and evaluation of a culturally grounded lifestyle intervention to mitigate the risk of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders: A study protocol
• Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) have a greater risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias (ADRD), and at younger ages; yet, they are nearly absent in ADRD research. • A novel culturally-grounded intervention focused on diet, exercise, and social and cognitive engagement can improve the clinical factors of ADRD and prevent or delay its onset in NHPI. • Innovative trial designs to test the feasibility and effectiveness of culturally-grounded interventions in small-knit, Indigenous communities are needed.
