Modelling ember storms at the wildland-urban interface
Ember storms are a poorly understood mechanism of bushfire attack, which involves thousands of embers flowing close to the ground. Ember storms lead to significant impacts on structures in the wildland-urban interface, and mitigating their effects requires novel modelling approaches to support enhanced bushfire risk management and urban planning. Here we provide an overview of a program of research aimed at addressing this issue through a trifurcated approach involving CFD modelling, analysis of the wildland-urban interface and the development of data-driven simulation techniques.
