Structural design and finite element analysis of a new type of giant magnetostrictive brake
As an important part of the vehicle braking system, the performance of the brake directly affects the overall performance of the braking system. In this paper, a new actuator is designed as the drive source of the disk brake by using a giant magnetostrictive material that can respond quickly and has a large output energy. Design calculations were made from brake parameters, the drive and actuator were modeled using CATIA software. Since the drive source generates a large amount of heat during operation, condensation tubes are added to the giant magnetostrictive material and the periphery of the coil. Finally, the actuator of the giant magnetostrictive brake is analyzed statically using ANSYS finite element software. The simulation results show that: when the ball actuator is subjected to downward pressure, the stress is concentrated in the connection between the pin and the wedge, with a maximum of 90 MPa, which does not exceed the bearing limit of the selected material, so the structural design is reasonable. According to the above research content, the designed brake, the response speed can reach the microsecond level, which shortens the braking distance and improves the active safety of the car.
