A new method of prefabricating V-shaped groove through cross wedge rolling

The existing methods for prefabricated V-shaped grooves (PVG), such as turning and milling, require specialized equipment. Cross wedge rolling (CWR) PVG is an advanced near net forming manufacturing technology that can achieve PVG of rolled parts without the need for specialized equipment. It has significant advantages such as high production efficiency, material saving, high product accuracy, good working conditions, and low product cost, and is suitable for mass production of rotary parts or preforms. This paper proposes that the bar is PVG by CWR. Appropriate parameters were chosen for experimentation, and the forming process was calculated using finite element (FE) software. The experimental results align with the simulation outcomes, confirming the reliability of the established FE model. The rolling force and torque are examined through simulation analysis. Afterwards, the microstructure at various positions of the rolled piece is examined, and the microstructure of the rolled part is refined. Finally, the PVG bar material was used for cropping verification and analysis. It provides a feasible solution for PVG for bars.
