Hydrophilic functionalization of gold electrodes by mono- and bis-hydroxymethylbisphenyl-substituted CoIII- and CuIIIcorroles for accelerating electrocatalyzed hydrogen evolutions

Herein, a series of two Co[Formula: see text]PPh 3 corroles and two Cu[Formula: see text]corroles with hydrophilic mono- and di-hydroxymethylbisphenyl-substituents have been prepared and covalently functionalized on the gold electrode through “Au-S” bonds. Due to the active and tunable hydrophilic surface microenvironments, these metallocorroles functionalized gold electrodes performed accelerated electrocatalytic behaviors, especially the 2b-SAM and 2d-SAM with di-hydroxymethylbisphenyl-substituents exhibited the highly efficient and long-time stable HER performances in the acid media.
