Centrally split S-shaped anisotropic reflective metasurface-assisted polarization converter

A centrally split S-shaped anisotropic metasurface was investigated in the reflection mode to convert the linearly polarized incidence wave into its cross-component over a wide microwave frequency band (14–26 GHz) with a ∼90% polarization conversion ratio. The device comprises a centrally split S-shaped meta-atom-based surface, fabricated over a copper-backed FR4 dielectric substrate, and exhibits the plasmonic resonances at 14.0, 19.5, and 25.6 GHz, thereby producing a large bandwidth. The polarization conversion was also investigated focusing on the surface current analyses at the resonance frequencies. The simulated and measured results were in fairly close agreement, thereby confirming the efficacy of the device in polarization conversion applications.
