Point‐surface structured modified graphene oxide‐based rubber composites with simultaneous enhanced mechanical properties, low heat build‐up and thermal conductivity
Abstract Graphene oxide (GO) has been widely applied in the rubber industry due to its excellent insulating and physical properties. However, its dispersion has always been a key factor limiting the enhancement of overall rubber performance. In this study, tetrapropoxysilane (TPOS) was used to modify GO, creating a point‐surface structure. This process resulted in SiO 2 @GO, which was subsequently employed as reinforcing fillers for the preparation of rubber composites. The results indicated that the point‐surface structure of SiO 2 @GO fillers increased the spacing between GO layers and the effective contact area with the rubber matrix, endowing it with excellent dispersion. Compared to GO/natural rubber (NR) composites, SiO 2 @GO/NR composites exhibited reduced heat generation while demonstrating enhanced mechanical properties and thermal conductivity with a filler content of only 0.5 phr. Specifically, the heat generation value, thermal conductivity, tensile strength, and tear strength were 20.7°C, 0.28 W/m K −1 , 28.14 MPa, and 108.43 N/mm, respectively. This method provided new insights into the preparation of GO‐based long‐lasting green tires. Highlights The point‐surface structure of GO had excellent dispersion. This structure of the GO effectively reduced the heat generation of the rubber. Rubber composites showed excellent mechanical properties.
