Introduction to a Special Collection—Illuminating a Warmer World: Insights From the Paleogene

Abstract We need to explore the geological past to predict the future of our warming planet. This AGU Special Collection in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology comprises the latest scientific contributions related to the 12th Climatic and Biotic Events of the Paleogene Conference. The focus is on the Paleogene Period, a time when Earth's climate was warmer than today. In light of ongoing global warming, the geological records of the Paleogene may offer valuable insights into our future climatic conditions. These records contain numerous case studies that provide critical insights into the resilience of the Earth system components to disruption and perturbation, as highlighted in the contributions to this special volume.
