A clinical retrospective survey on a multicomponent medical device for managing patients with dyspeptic symptoms

BACKGROUND: Dyspepsia is an umbrella term that encompasses several symptoms, including poor digestion and hyperacidity. The medical device (MD) Bullrich Magen&Darm is recommended for patients with digestive complaints associated with gastric disorders, such as gastric hyperacidity, nausea, and gastrointestinal bloating. This product is available as an orosoluble stick pack and contains simethicone, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, and magnesium hydroxide.METHODS: A survey evaluated the patient reported outcomes of 200 subjects with dyspeptic symptoms. All of them took the MD twice-a-day for 18 days. Early satiety, sensation of postprandial fullness, epigastric pain/burning, epigastric bloating/distension, excessive belching, nausea, acid regurgitation, and pyrosis were measured at baseline, after one week, and at the end of treatment.RESULTS: The MD significantly (P<0.0001) reduced all symptoms after seven and 18 days. The mean onset of action is about 30 minutes and the symptomatic effect last about 12 hours. The treatment favorably improved the perception of a good quality of life. The product was judged as easy to use.CONCLUSIONS: Bullrich Magen&Darm may be considered an effective, safe, and well tolerated medical device with good usability and consumer and health care professionals’ satisfaction in managing dyspeptic symptoms, including hyperacidity, nausea, and bloating.
