A nomenclatural synopsis of the genus Brodiaea (Asparagaceae: Brodiaeoideae)
Abstract A nomenclatural synopsis of the genus Brodiaea (Asparagaceae: Brodiaeoideae) is presented. Brodiaea is a small genus of geophytes endemic to the west coast of North America. Nineteen species and six infraspecific taxa are currently recognized. All 61 names applied to these taxa, including synonyms in Brodiaea and Hookera , are discussed in detail here. A neotype is designated for B. terrestris , lectotypes are designated for B. coronaria , B. grandiflora , and B. grandiflora var. elatior , and a second‐step lectotypification is made for B. californica . Corrections are provided to address prior nomenclatural errors, primarily where the term “holotype” was misapplied to lectotypes. Full synonymies and taxonomic notes are presented to provide clarifications and historical context for each currently recognized taxon and the names that have been applied to each taxon.
