Electromagnetic Compatibility Advantages of Cellulose Nanofiber Composite Doping Carbon Nanotubes for 6G Telecommunications

In the field of communication, the 5G frequency band is becoming increasingly common, and new systems using the millimeter-wave band are being developed for electrical vehicles (EV s). The 6G standard, which is expected to improve transfer rates in the field of communication further, is about to be launched. Therefore, the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of equipment is becoming increasingly important. Currently, metal-based solutions are the most common electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials used to mitigate EMC problems. Polymer composites provide another solution to this problem. They are lightweight and easy to process; thus, they are advantageous for the miniaturization and weight reduction of communication devices and EV s. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been incorporated into polymer composites. Previous research has reported that polymer composites incorporating CNTs exhibit good shielding efficiency. In this study, a cellulose nanofiber composite doped with CNTs designed for the sub-terahertz band was developed. The electromagnetic shielding performance of this material was evaluated using sub-terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Compared with a graphite composite, an equivalent shielding performance was achieved at a very low concentration. This performance was achieved largely by the absorption of EMI. This indicated that the material developed has a significant advantage in terms of thin-film formation.
