EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF SURGICAL INTERVENTION IN THE TREATMENT OF SUBFOVEAL CHOROIDAL NEOVASCULARIZATION: COMPARISON WITH OBSERVATION
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of surgical intervention compared with follow-up in the treatment of endoveal chorial neovascularization (CNV). Materials and methods. The study was conducted at the Hi-Tech Eye clinic from March 2022 to October 2024. 23 patients were included, divided into observation groups (n=11) and surgical treatment (n=12). The inclusion of patients was based on strict criteria, and only one eye of each patient participated in the study. Visual acuity and other parameters were measured according to standard protocols, and interventions and observations were performed by qualified ophthalmologists. Results. The average age of the participants was 47 years. After 24 months, 14% of the eyes in the surgical group underwent cataract surgery, which improved visual acuity after 36 and 48 months. CNV leakage was registered in 35% of the eyes in the surgical group and in 49% in the control group by 24 months. The incidence of complications, such as regmatogenic retinal detachment, was minimal. Conclusions. Surgical intervention has a positive effect on improving visual acuity and can reduce the frequency of CNV leaks. Nevertheless, careful attention is required to possible complications so that their frequency is minimal. An individual approach is necessary to determine the optimal treatment strategy.
