THE USE OF LASERS IN OPHTHALMOLOGY: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Over the past decades, laser technologies have become firmly established in the medical field, especially in ophthalmology. Lasers are actively used to treat eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and various retinal pathologies. Their use provides unique opportunities for highly accurate diagnostics and minimally invasive intervention, which significantly improves the quality of life of patients. However, despite the obvious advantages, there are a number of potential risks, which requires a comprehensive analysis of the use of this technology in ophthalmological practice. The purpose of this article is to systematize knowledge about the use of lasers in ophthalmology, to identify their strengths and weaknesses. The study is based on the analysis of current scientific publications, clinical data, as well as on the generalization of the experience of leading specialists. The work uses methods of comparative analysis, statistical data processing and expert assessments. The study revealed the advantages of using lasers in the treatment of eye diseases, including high precision of operations, minimal trauma and rapid recovery. At the same time, potential risks were identified, including possible complications such as inflammation, swelling, changes in visual function and other undesirable effects. Particular attention was paid to the need for strict adherence to treatment protocols and individual characteristics of each patient. The results obtained are of great practical importance for ophthalmologists, allowing them to improve treatment methods and minimize the risks of complications. In addition, these data contribute to the further development of scientific research in the field of ophthalmology, open up new prospects for improving the quality of medical care and optimizing approaches to the treatment of eye diseases.
