Surgical management of nasal planum extramedullary plasmacytoma in a dog
Abstract A 6‐year‐old, neutered, male cocker spaniel cross was presented with a recurrent nasal planum extramedullary plasmacytoma. The initial presenting signs included excessive licking of the nose and epistaxis. The tumour had been marginally resected 6 months and again 2 months before referral. Computed tomography of the head with contrast enhancement identified a right rostroventral nasal planum tumour 7 × 5 × 7 mm. Surgical excision with 1‐cm lateral margins and cartilage as a deep tumour plane was performed. The defect was reconstructed with a right lip subdermal plexus flap. Minor dehiscence occurred, which required revision surgery 12 days postoperatively to achieve an excellent cosmetic outcome. The dog went on to make a full recovery, and at 18 months follow‐up, the dog had no evidence of recurrence, excessive licking or epistaxis. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of an extramedullary plasmacytoma of the nasal planum in a dog that underwent successful surgical management.
