Analysis and Suggestions of Informal Education Programs for Preschooler in Korea Science Museums & Centers
In this study, we analyzed the current state of informal education programs for preschoolers in science museums and centers, which serve as representative institutions of informal science learning. We identified problems based on statistical results and a review of the promotional materials for these programs and discussed corresponding improvements. Our analysis revealed that a total of 60 science museums and centers conducted informal education programs for preschoolers from January to August 2023, with a total of 583 programs offered. We found several issues with these programs, including a lack of specialized educational programs for preschoolers, an imbalance in the topics covered, a deficiency of linked and in-depth educational experiences, and an overall lack of programs specifically designed for preschoolers. Based on these findings, we discussed and suggested improvements for early childhood science education in science museums and centers.
