THE LANGUAGE OF ABSTRACT ART: METHODOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS AND CRITICISM

The aim of the article is to demonstrate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the issue of the language of abstract art. To achieve this goal, the paper accomplishes several tasks. First, the author provides the necessary historical context of the formation and development of abstract art. Secondly, the article shows that modern interpretations of abstract art actively use an interdisciplinary approach, a vivid example of which is the use of psychoanalysis and phenomenology to analyze the phenomenon of abstraction itself. Thirdly, the author demonstrates that even critics who condemn the phenomenon of abstract art as such also use various external arguments and concepts – philosophical, psychological – to formulate their position. Finally, the paper concludes by outlining new disciplinary spaces that can also contribute to the process of formulating a language for describing abstraction – in particular, the anthropological approach that is actively developing in the field of art research today.
