INTERPHASE INTERACTION AT THE BOUNDARY Al-Ti ALLOY (Nb, Ta, Gd, Y) — OXIDE PHASE
The results of studying the surface and bulk properties of Al-Ti alloys containing 5–6 % Nb and Ta, 0.6–3.1 % Y and Gd are presented. The nature of the interaction of alloys with oxide slags is considered. It has been shown that additions of Gd and Y to the niobium alloy contribute to an increase in surface tension. Alloying with rare earth elements has virtually no effect on the properties of tantalum alloy. The values of interfacial tension between metal and slag, according to experimental data, amounted to 500–700 mJ/m2, which, in combination with a significant difference in density (up to 6000 kg/m3), ensures their good separation.
