COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO DESIGN IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS: A RESIDENTIAL HOUSE WITH A PRIVATE FIRM AND INTERIORS FOR THEM
This article presents and analyzes the experience of a comprehensive assignment for second-year course projects. The classic task of designing a residential house is supplemented with an additional function – a private firm. This added complexity is beneficial, as it prevents the use of pre-made solutions. Additionally, to encourage more diversity in the work and greater engagement in the process of creative design, students choose the type of private business operated by the residents of their house. Experience shows that the topics chosen are diverse and interesting, and they are reflected in the spatial and planning solutions as well as in the design details. The next task is to design the interior. By the time the sketch design of the house is developed, students already know that they will be working on the interior design of one of the rooms in the house. This also influences the overall concept, and some may even develop the architectural solution "from the inside," based on the envisioned image, style, or theme of the interior. The diversity of design solutions is also influenced by the fact that while the number of family members is specified, students choose the age and gender of the children themselves. Current societal issues also impact the themes chosen. Examples of student work are presented based on the author's selection. It is shown that this approach to the assignment is closest to the real work of an architect and simulates the actual process of working with a client. This allows students to immerse themselves in a "role-playing game" during the learning process, fostering greater interest in their studies and in the final results.
