Managing electric vehicle (EV) fleet charging to avoid grid congestion and optimise renewables
Modern power grids are presented with both significant challenges and opportunities as a result of the widespread deployment of electric vehicles (EVs), predominantly regarding grid congestion and the integration of renewable energy sources. This stu dy looks at efficient ways to reduce grid congestion brought on by EV fleet charging while maximising the use of renewable energy sources by implementing scheduled charging. The study assesses the effects of smart charging strategies, such as Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing and demand response programmes, using a combination of computer modelling and real-world data analysis. The suggested method entails dynamically modifying EV charging demands to coincide with times when there is a large Battery Energy storage power brought about by being charged from a renewable energy source - Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and a low demand and tariff price on the grid overall.
