Hydrogen and DSEAR

Although hydrogen has been utilised for over a century, the scaling of its use as a way of offsetting carbon emissions is growing at an accelerated rate. The properties of hydrogen and how these relate to ignition potential and how this differs from current practices for natural gas need t be considered. How the Dangerous Substance and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) for the UK apply to facilities utilizing hydrogen, as well as the impact on supply chain through UKCA/UK Ex is a challenge that needs to be tackled to ensure safe transition to hydrogen as a fuel source.

Abstract

Although hydrogen has been utilised for over a century, the scaling of its use as a way of offsetting carbon emissions is growing at an accelerated rate. The properties of hydrogen and how these relate to ignition potential and how this differs from current practices for natural gas need t be considered. How the Dangerous Substance and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) for the UK apply to facilities utilizing hydrogen, as well as the impact on supply chain through UKCA/UK Ex is a challenge that needs to be tackled to ensure safe transition to hydrogen as a fuel source.
