Energy management strategy for railway station considering trains, EVs, and renewable energy
With the UK's goal of net zero emissions by 2050, rapid decarbonisation efforts are underway across all sectors. The railway transport sector, a major energy consumer, plays a crucial role in these efforts, and its electrification will significantly reduce energy demand. Firstly, the energy flow relationship is described in the railway station energy system. Energy suppliers include upper utility grid, regenerative braking energy, and renewable energy generation. Energy consumptions include traction power demand of the train, operation energy of the railway station, and the charging demand of electric vehicle (EV). Secondly, the EV charging interaction with the utility grid is considered to augment the flexibility of traction power supply system (TPSS), demand response of EV charging demand model is established. Finally, with the proposed operation strategy, it is proven that the energy dispatching cost of the system decreases by 8.95%, and with the growing penetration of EV, the operational cost can achieve a more significant cost reduction of 12.51%.
