Rys historyczny Hufca Morskiego w Gdyni w latach 1928-1939
The aim of the paper is to present, basing on a critical analysis of archival sources and on subject literature, the Maritime Troop in Gdynia (1928-1939), its traditions and achievements in promoting maritime education among children and youngsters. From the very beginning, the educational programmes for the guides and scouts’ groups were focused on the development of sea scouting and, therefore, aimed to specialize the members of this organization in yachting. The initiatives of the Scouts’ Friends Associations like: establishing the Sea Centre in Gdynia in 1931, extending the technical background for the sailing scouts, ensuring material support and well-trained instructors, soon resulted in perceiving Gdynia as a specific centre of marine education, embracing 18 sea scouting groups in 1932. The participation of the Sea Scout Troop in the international jamborees in: Copenhagen (1924), Arrow Park near Birkenhead (1929), Ingarö (1935), Gëdële (1937), shows the remarkable achievements of the scouts’ groups from Gdynia and the surrounding area, as well as their high level of sea training.
