Uświadamianie o potrzebach i oczekiwaniach studentów z niepełnosprawnością w środowisku akademickim

Since the 1990s, the increasing number of students with diagnosed disabilities has led to numerous scientific studies concerning them. The empirical research, as well as the theoretical considerations, have addressed the architectural and educational barriers, the implementation of an assistive technology, the practical aspects of academic accommodations, the attitudes towards disability, and some general aspects of functioning with disability within an academic environment. There is still, however, a lack of broader exploration, as far as the general awareness in the area of needs and expectations of the students with disabilities and their activity in promoting an inclusive environment is concerned. That is why the purpose of the article is to find out and reflect on the opinions of the students with disabilities on the initiatives undertaken to make the academic community more aware of their needs and expectations. In order to reach this goal, the researcher used a diagnostic survey method - a questionnaire technique: fifty-three students from more than a dozen universities in Poland completed the questionnaire online. One may come to a conclusion that the respondents generally appreciate the activities aimed at raising the public awareness of their needs and expectations. However, they were less enthusiastic in reference to their own involvement and activity in this process.
