Structural Analysis of the Relationship Between Social Support and ADHD Tendencies in Adolescents: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem
This study analyzed the influence of parenting attitudes, teacher relationships, peer relationships, and self-esteem on ADHD tendencies in adolescents and verified the mediating effect of self-esteem. The study included 1,959 middle school students sampled nationwide based on the ‘Survey on Mental Health of Adolescents’ by the Korea Youth Policy Institute. Results showed that parenting attitudes, teacher relationships, and peer relationships positively affected self-esteem, while parenting attitudes and teacher relationships negatively impacted ADHD tendencies. Self-esteem also negatively influenced ADHD tendencies and mediated relationships between parenting attitudes, teacher relationships, peer relationships, and ADHD tendencies. This study highlights the importance of strengthening parent, teacher, and peer relationships and self-esteem in managing ADHD and promoting mental health.
